Disney
Cruise Vegan Survival Tips |
|
Let's
face it... the words Vegan and Vacation
sometimes can be equal Challenges. That's
because it can be difficult to find vegan
friendly restaurants at most resorts, and
let's not forget how tiring it can be to repeatedly
explain and ask about vegan friendly options
everywhere you go.
So while trying to plan a
fun vacation I learned about the Disney
Cruise Line. I learned that
not only they offered vegan and vegetarian
options but they will cater to any allergy
restrictions, such as gluten free cooking
for example. It sounded really good at first
but it was hard to believe I confess. So after
giving them a few calls and doing a bit more
research I was confident and decided to give
it a try. So Disney Cruise here I went...
And to my delight I had a wonderful
experience! It was awesome. However,
there are some important details you need
to know which I will be sharing here. Additionally
here is a sneak peek preview photo gallery
of some of the wonderful vegan friendly dishes
they offer.
Let's get started!
1. Breakfast is tricky.
Therefore, pre-ordering breakfast might
be necessary. They serve a buffet-style
breakfast with very little vegan options,
which may include fruits, oatmeal, some
nuts and juices. Most breads are not
vegan, in fact most of the buffet includes
eggs, meats, butter, milk and not much more.
So the nights before just let the Chef know
what dishes you'd like to have for breakfast.
If not pre-ordering, simply let the Chef
know what you'd like to eat. In this case,
if they are having a busy morning, you might
have to wait 10-15 minutes for your meal.
So if dining with family and friends simply
grab some oatmeal and fruit while waiting
for your special ordered breakfast to arrive.
Make sure to ask for a complete
protein dish, such as a tofu
scramble with veggies, for example, and grab
some potatoes and fruit from the buffet. Here
is a photo below.
Notes: They
didn't have any other beans in the morning,
so I went with soy and suggested the tofu
scramble. I tried to explain to them it's
like an egg scramble but using tofu instead
and they did a great job. On a different morning
I was able to have freshly made hummus instead.
2. Lunch will also need to be pre-ordered.
On the Castaway Cay Disney Island,
for example, they only serve BBQ and meats.
Make sure to order the night before ahead
of time. Let the Chef know what you'd like
to eat and he will be happy to prepare it
for you. I simply said some beans, veggies
and fruit for example. Simple, but they were
all delicious! Here are some photos below
of lunch on the island.
Castaway Cay: Red Beans
in Tomato Sauce, Veggies and Rice, Fresh Fruits
and Gluten Free Cake.
3. Dinner is easy. Most
restaurants offer vegetarian options, which
is a great start. But here is the trick,
or should I say here is the awesomeness:
At Disney Cruise Line you will be assigned
the same server every night. So he or she
will know exactly what you like and don't
like. I didn't have to worry at all about
dinner as my server surprised me with exciting
dishes every day.
Animator's Palate: Vegan
Butternut Squash Soup (made vegan), Bean Cakes
with Rice, Gluten Free Cake and Fresh Fruit.
Enchanted Garden: Cucumber
Rolls, Lentils and Mushrooms and Vegan Ice
Cream with Bananas for dessert.
Royal Palace: Avocado-Citrus
Salad, Eggplant and Tofu, and Vegan Chocolate
Cake plus gluten-free cookies. Yummmy...
I had a lot of fun at the Disney
Cruise, the food and service were
exceptional and I was very impressed. What
a great vegan-friendly cruise experience!
:)
Additional Tips: I also
learned that at Disney Cruise Line it's ok
the bring alcohol
if you'd like — it won't be confiscated
like in other cruises. Just make sure to bring
new and well packed bottles. After boarding
the ship you can store all drinks in your
room's refrigerator.
