Is Vegan the only way? What's the "Right" answer?

As you may know, vegans are often known for forcing their beliefs onto other people. This is something I've never done and I'm not very fond of. In fact many of my friends are omnivores, but they eat their veggies as well of course.

Being a vegan is not for everyone, it's a personal choice! As much as I'd like my choices to be respected, I also respect my friend's choices.

Left or Right?

I still remember clearly... our kindergarten class had 44 children and I sat in the back. One day, the teacher was teaching us directions... left, right, north, south, etc.

So while standing in front of the class she said: — Show me the Left side?

All my classmates raised their Left hands while I raised my Right!

I kept my Right arm raised in confusion and thought... she asked us to show her the Left side right? But she didn't specify ours or hers.

Since she was facing us I looked at her Left hand and raised my Right hand indicating her Left side, not mine! lol

So what's the "Right" answer? Well, I think Left and Right are relative. It really all depends on your perspective.

The endless debates! Who is right?

Go to any vegan blog and will you see the same following debates:

Meat-eaters say:
Vegans say:
Animals eat other animals, so why can't we eat them too?

Animals eating one another in the wild is not the same as raising animals in horrific conditions for their meat.

If it's ok for an animal to eat another animal, why not ok for humans?

Not all animals are meat eaters! Some animals are vegetarian, including cows, elephants, rhinos, horses, giraffes, gorillas, hippos, rabbits, etc.

Chimpanzees, our closest relatives, eat a small amount of meat a day.

Gorillas and orangutans, our closest relatives, are vegetarian.

Eating meat is a natural thing. The only problem perhaps is that we eat more than our serving size.

The human anatomy is most similar to other herbivores and omnivores, not carnivores.
Eating just fruits and vegetables is dangerous. That is why vegans usually have to take supplements.

Vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts provide all the nutrition we need.

Eating animal protein is a lot easier than buying and cooking veggies.
When you buy animal products, you're paying for animals to be tortured and killed.
Animal protein is necessary for health and fitness.

Among animals and humans, plant-eaters have the longest lifespans and healthier lives than non-vegans.

Millions of pounds of fruits and veggies that could feed the hungry get thrown away by the food industry also. They only want to sell the best looking fruits and veggies.

If people ate more veggies we would be able to feed millions of hungry people on the planet. We could end hunger. It takes on average 13 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of meat. So it's better for the planet to eat vegan.

Fruits, grains and nuts are also living things. You have to kill to eat.
Animals don't have a voice. If they were asked if they wanted to be lunch they would say No.
Try going vegan for a week and you'll see the difference for yourself. It doesn't feel right to me. To be fair: Some people feel great!

Science shows that the more meat we eat, the sicker we get, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc. To be fair: Research also shows grass fed meat is a lot healthier than factory farmed meat.

Life in nature is very unforgiving and animals have to do what they have to do to survive.
Animals have to kill to survive. We are smarter and have the choice of growing our own food to survive. They don't.
Humans have always hunted and killed animals in the wild to survive.

Our early ancestors from at least four million years ago were almost exclusively vegetarian.

I think both sides have some valid points... we are all different and play a different role on this planet. Humans are incredibly adaptable and diverse. Nature has carnivores, omnivores and herbivores... I think we are unique in that we can choose.

BUT, I will say this... From my perspective, I see an imbalance of suffering, killing and violence at this point in our planet's evolution. With our current farming practices, producing animal protein is also very destructive to the planet. Can you imagine all the people in the developing world one day eating as much meat as Americans do? And we won't even talk about the declining fish population!

Our planet needs a little balance right now. So from my perspective it makes sense to be vegan. And for my omnivores out there, why not add some more vegan meals to your diet? I promise, you'll still be buff ... ;)

So what do you think?
