Quick and easy meals at the beach... The Outer Banks, North Carolina!
Quick
and easy meals at the beach... The
Outer Banks, North Carolina!
On a recent
trip to The Outer Banks, NC... I was lucky
to catch some beautiful weather and action
packed days at the busy beaches. When visiting,
you may experience such strong winds that
people call it the "Kite Boarding
and Wind Surfing Capital of the East Coast."
The perfect wind conditions bring thousands
of kiteboarders to the sandy beaches. Because
of this, and the many summer visitors who
come to The Outer Banks each year, there are
many hotels and restaurants on the island
as well. ;)
Being a small
town with limited busy months, you can expect
dozens of local family restaurants, fresh
ingredients and many seafood places. Most
of these restaurants have a laid-back vibe,
and many are willing to prepare vegan food
as well. So don't worry... if you
are not a seafood lover, just ask for other
options including pasta, sandwiches, salads
and vegetarian entrees at many of the local
restaurants. Or, even easier... grab some
Thai, Japanese or Chinese options. We've
listed a unique places at the bottom of this
page.
Here's another
fun thing about The Outer Banks... Since many
of the people eating out are travelers themelves,
you can dress as casual as you'd like (in
most cases)! In fact, most people are wearing
beach shorts and t-shirts.
I've posted some photos below
so you can see the long roads and bridges
that you'll encounter on the way. When you
arrive in town, here's another fun thing that
you may notice... There are beaches on both
sides of the road! Very cool!
Vegan
friendly Restaurants in Outer Banks
My first stop
was at Taiko. It was a very pleasant experience!
A very clean place with delicious edadame
beans, miso soup, avocado rolls and fried
tofu.
Taiko Japanese Restaurant 5000 S Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC

Next day I searched for some Chinese food
and ordered some veggie rice, veggie noodles
and more to try. I then realized some online
reviews were right... so not my favorite place,
but some fast food for the day.
You can't miss
the beautiful beaches... wether you enjoy
surfing, kite surfing, paddleboarding or just
walking, there are many miles of ocean and
sand. So I google searched the best surfing
spots and enjoyed watching dozens of pros
ride their kites while sitting at the shore.
I ended the
trip returning some rental gear and grabbing
some vegan snacks at the local Fresh
Market. Had a great time, and highly
recommend it to anyone wanting to practice
their favorite water sport!
